Going to the beach !

 Mom took us to the Beach today for our Birthday picnic !

 

Here we are !  Did you notice how much bigger we are ! Ms. Pink has now quadruple her birth weight!  But her Bros are not wanting, they tipped the scale at 3 pounds this morning!

Here I am says Mr Blue,  and with my eyes open ! Mr. Blue has been avoiding giving us a face on mug shot but here he is this morning after their beach outing, forgetting his usual reserve !

Mr Red was the first one to open his eyes, and like his siblings, he is taking it all in !

Ice Cream Day !

This afternoon as I was thinking of a theme for today, I looked at Lia’s picture with the ‘kids’ lined up, it reminded me when as a family,  we went out for ice cream on Sunday night, all lined up at the counter checking the flavours !  The temperature dropped last night and it was nice and cool  today!!!

Mr Red
Mr Red is almost getting up on his legs, by the week end I would not be surprised to see them starting to ‘walk’ rather than crawl.  There is no mistaking him, in true schnauzer style, meal time is the best time !  He was caught after over indulging !

Mr Blue

Mr Blue is quite the athlete, here he is caught doing a high speed turn !  In no time at all we will have to add the half door to their den as they will start to crawl out to explore the rest of the room !  This morning for their daily weight in Mr. Blue almost escaped from the basket in which they get weighted !
Ms Pink

Ms Pink has disregarded her waistline the last few days, I was going to show her expanding waistline but I am afraid she might hold it against me when she is older !  she says look at this face ! Ain’t I cute ?

It’s our Birthday !

Birthday Bash !

The trio celebrated their one week birthday today by having a birthday bash with Mom ; here they are enjoying breakfast with Mom looking on.  It is funny to see their little tails go stiff as they as suckling.  Usually by this time they would have had their tails docked and we would not be able to notice the tail action as easily.  Having been born in Nova Scotia they will sport a natural tail.

Mr Blue is quite the relaxed boy! Never in a rush but getting there just the same.He enjoys his feedings in a sampler style , enjoying a variety along the way. A few grams shy of having double his birth weight, Mr Blue is taking it all in strides!  Here he is relaxing after their birthday bash!  Notice their sharp little nails, they will need to get trimmed for the first time today.

Mr Red

Mr Red, is all business and enjoys feeding with an unsurpassed passion! The array of happy noises he makes while feeding is quite entertaining!  Needless to say he very adequately double his birth weight ! He is also quite wiggly , to have a chance to capture this head shot I have had to wait until he was so full that he rolled of his mummy!

Ms Pink

 Here is Ms Pink, already showing a bit of character, she does not let her burly brothers take her favourite teat ! Having doubled her birth weight, she still looks dainty in her glossy coat!

We are 5 days old !

Day four line up !

Lia is very busy raising her new family.

They are quite active puppies, and I have not been able to line them up for a shot! As we put them on the blanket they all bunch up together!

Most of Lia’s time is spent  feeding and cleaning her puppies.  As the puppies systems are still immature, Lia must stimulate them to eliminate; she does so by licking them,  sometimes quite strongly!

Ms Pink

They will rest on their own from time to time and Lia will take advantage of their little naps to go out and take some air, just long enough for one of us to change her bedding!
Here is dainty Ms Pink , with my thumb showing to give an idea of her size.  On day 5 she has reached her brother’s birth weight of 392 gr( 13 oz)!
Mr Blue who was born at 390 gr ( 13 oz) is now 630 gr ( 21 oz)!

Lia ‘s new family !

Lia's new family

On July 16th, Lia delivered 3 puppies, 1 girl and 2 boys.  A few days before her due date, Lia visited her vet and found out that she was carrying very large puppies! So the decision was made to schedule a C Section on Saturday the 16th.  Lia and the babies came home a few hours later and started their new life together.  Here is Lia in her maternity room with the boys in red and blue and her little girl busy getting a good start in life.

To appreciate how big the boys are, the gilr born at 8 ounces is average size for the breed.  The boys came in at 13 ounces!  When they are born the babies are still a work in progress; their eyes are not open and they cannot hear, neither can they stand on their legs.  They crawl around finding mom by vibration and scent, of course Mom does not let wander out of her reach.  Lia will snuggle her puppies to maintain their body temperature as they cannot regulate their own temperature yet.

Lia is a very dedicated Mom leaving her pups only to go to the bathroom when we ask her  and returns promptly.  She has no interest outside her puppies and even give me the ‘eye’ when I take them out of her reach to weigh them; she toughroughly checks them when the are back  with her.
